28.09.2016 DecalsAt the time and place where I was growing up it was hard to imagine any tableware that did not have some kind of image on it. Everywhere you went you were offered food and drinks in pottery that had either botanical motifs or some repetitive intricate decorative pattern on it. Sometimes there were even images of people, and naturally, these people on your pottery looked like they are from Rafael's paintings. All households were aiming to have sets of dinnerware and these sets were decorated with identical images. With globalisation bringing more of western culture and household items into the rest of the world, pottery with identical images on them has given its place to more minimalistic decorations, consisting of very few colors! Gradually, identically patterned pottery started to carry an oldfashioned feel to it and can hardly be found anywhere. I dont think I would enjoy going back full circle and equipping my home with sets of pottery carrying identical images. At the same time, I can't say that I am ready to completely forget about those images. I quietly like them and if used in moderation, I think there will always be a place for pottery carrying images that are perfect every time. Maybe we wont buy full diner sets, maybe our dinners sets wont look like the ones from the past. But if your eyes catch a perfect image on pottery every now and then, I think it could only add beauty to our days.
