16.05.2017 Handbuilding potteryWheel throwing pottery is not the only solution to your pottery creating urges. Very often in our pottery classes people decide to experiment with other ways of working with clay such as coil buildig, pinch pots, slab building, sculpting and slipcasting. Using these methods often gives you an opportunity to create larger pieces. Plus in this case there is no pressure of making something symmetric and if you are familiar with the way clay dries and how it has to be handled and finished then the sky is the limit. You can make functional or sculptural pieces, you can make them as high and as wide as your kiln allows. You can press textures, stamps and plants into them to add more character to your surfaces. You can make them as complex or as simple as your heart desires. At the end of the day it is your creation and you decide what it should look like.
