03.06.2020 Whats newStudio is now open for pottery classes offering the same scedule three days a week. Beginners three classes packages are starting every second week. Returning students can book in anytime it suits and can work on any project they wish to work on. Recommended course of actions for returning students in the beginning of their pottery journey is to stick with throwing cylinders and make as many cups as possible, thus practicing their throwing, trimming and glazing. Everyone is encouraged to throw a few classes in a row after they have finished their beginners course, as pottery made at this stage is not always going to be your favorite. They will be learning experiences more than pottery you love. After throwing for several classes in a row you can pick and choose which ones you would like to spend your time trimming and glazing and this way you are not wasting your time trimming and glazing something you do not like from the beginning. After making dozens and dozens of cups you develop a muscle memory and it becomes much easier to start throwing bigger pieces and different shapes, such as bowls, plates, vases, bottles, etc. Without the prior experience in throwing cylinders these shapes can be quite challenging and not very successful. Recommended projects after cylinders are: 1) Set of nesting bowls with straight sides, all fitting inside each other and gradual size change, from smallest to largest. 2) Lided jars, where you learn creating galleries, flanges and knobs on wheel thrown pottery. 3) Vases, where you learn bellying out and creating longer necks. 4) Matching set of bowls, which will help you to improve your skills in creating the same shape over and over. 5) Teapot, where you learn how to throw a spout, lid, and a body and attach all parts. 6) Throwing matching plates. 7) Thorwing chip and dip platter. 8) Throwing double walled vessels. 9) Throwing tall using 2 or more thrown cylinders attached on top of each other. 10) Throwing spheres. Once you have done all of these, now there is no stopping you! Go forth and create what you will.
